Which song became The Beatles’ 20th and final Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single during their original run?

The story behind the answer

“The Long and Winding Road” became The Beatles’ 20th and final Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single during their original run.

The song was written by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon–McCartney songwriting partnership. The Beatles’ single version was heavily arranged and produced by Phil Spector, adding orchestral and choral parts to the group’s recording.

It reached No. 1 in the United States in June 1970, shortly after the band’s breakup was publicly confirmed. The single was issued with “For You Blue” on the reverse side and became the group’s last American chart-topper.

A common mix-up is confusing the song with “Let It Be,” which was the Beatles’ previous U.S. No. 1. “The Long and Winding Road” is also distinct from the later “Let It Be... Naked” presentation of the band’s recordings.
