Which snake species is the longest living snake, according to recorded measurements?

The story behind the answer

The reticulated python is the longest living snake species, according to recorded measurements.

Reticulated pythons are native to South and Southeast Asia, where they occupy forests, wetlands, farms, and other habitats. Their geometric pattern of net-like dark lines and light markings gives the species its common name. Exceptional individuals can exceed 6 metres in length, although most are considerably shorter.

The reticulated python is a constrictor, not a venomous snake. It captures prey with its teeth and coils, then suffocates it by constriction. Its diet can include birds, mammals, and occasionally animals as large as pigs or deer.

The green anaconda is often confused with it because anacondas are heavier-bodied. The anaconda is generally regarded as the heaviest living snake, while the reticulated python holds the better-supported length record. Reported giant lengths should be treated cautiously because many historical measurements were exaggerated.
