Which snake is the longest in the world by length?
Answer
reticulated python
Answer
reticulated python
The reticulated python is the longest snake in the world by length. Its scientific name is Malayopython reticulatus, and it is native to South and Southeast Asia.
Reticulated pythons are non-venomous constrictors that kill prey with muscular coils rather than venom. Their name refers to the striking net-like pattern formed by dark lines and pale, geometric markings across the body. They are also excellent swimmers and have reached many islands within their natural range.
The species is commonly confused with the green anaconda, which is heavier and bulkier but generally shorter. Measurements of giant snakes can be unreliable because living animals are difficult to straighten, while skins stretch after removal. Scientifically verified specimens over 6 metres are rare, but the reticulated python is the only living snake known to regularly exceed that length. Its conservation status is currently least concern, although hunting for skins and the pet trade remain important pressures.
