Siamese Dream was released on July 27, 1993, as the Chicago band’s second studio album. It followed Gish and expanded The Smashing Pumpkins’ sound through layered guitars, melodic songwriting, and studio experimentation. Producer Butch Vig, who had also produced Nirvana’s Nevermind, worked with the band on the record.

The album’s songs include “Cherub Rock,” “Today,” “Disarm,” “Rocket,” and “Geek U.S.A.” “Today” became one of the group’s signature songs, while “Disarm” uses acoustic instruments and orchestral textures to address difficult family memories associated with singer Billy Corgan’s childhood.

Siamese Dream reached number ten on the Billboard 200 and was certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA. It is sometimes mixed up with Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, the band’s 1995 double album, but Siamese Dream came two years earlier and has a more compact track list.
