Which small Caribbean country includes Redonda as a dependency? Antigua and Barbuda.
Redonda is a tiny, uninhabited island in the Leeward Islands, administered as a dependency of Saint John parish in Antigua and Barbuda. Although it lies closer to Montserrat and Nevis than to Antigua, it is politically part of the Antiguan and Barbudan state.
Christopher Columbus reportedly sighted Redonda in 1493 and named it Santa María la Redonda, meaning “Saint Mary the Round.” Its steep profile and isolated position made it unsuitable for permanent settlement, but the island became valuable in the 19th century because of its seabird-guano deposits.
Commercial mining began in the 1860s, and Redonda was formally annexed to Antigua in 1872. Mining and related activity eventually ended during the First World War, and the island has remained uninhabited. A common mix-up is assuming Barbuda is the only dependency; Antigua and Barbuda includes both Barbuda and Redonda.
