Which singer recorded the Cars soundtrack version of “Life Is a Highway”?

Rascal Flatts recorded the Cars soundtrack version of “Life Is a Highway.”

The country group recorded a new version of the song for Pixar’s 2006 film Cars. It plays over a road-trip montage as Lightning McQueen and Mack travel toward the Piston Cup race, making the track strongly associated with the film’s highway theme.

“Life Is a Highway” was originally written and recorded by Canadian musician Tom Cochrane. His version was released in 1991, while Rascal Flatts’ cover introduced the song to a new generation through the Cars soundtrack.

The song is sometimes incorrectly credited as an original Rascal Flatts composition. The group’s recording is a cover, and its placement in Cars helped make it one of the franchise’s best-known musical selections.
