Which singer performed with the punk band Against Me! under the name Laura Jane Grace?

Laura Jane Grace is the singer and guitarist associated with the punk band Against Me!.

Grace founded Against Me! in Naples, Florida, in 1997 and became its principal vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter. The project began with solo acoustic performances before expanding into a full band whose music blended folk-punk directness with melodic punk and politically engaged lyrics.

In 2012, Grace publicly came out as transgender and announced that she would use the name Laura Jane Grace. Her experiences informed the Against Me! album Transgender Dysphoria Blues, released in 2014. The record addressed gender identity, transition, alienation, and the pressures of public life.

A common mix-up is treating Laura Jane Grace as the name of a separate later vocalist. She is the same musician who founded and fronted Against Me! from its earliest period. The band’s line-up changed repeatedly, but Grace remained its central creative figure.
