Which singer founded the horror-punk band the Misfits in 1977?
Answer
Glenn Danzig
Answer
Glenn Danzig
Glenn Danzig founded the horror-punk band the Misfits in 1977.
Danzig formed the Misfits in Lodi, New Jersey, and named the group after the 1961 film The Misfits. He served as the band’s original singer and principal songwriter during its influential early period, helping establish its horror-film imagery, macabre lyrics, and aggressive melodic style.
The Misfits’ early recordings included songs such as “Cough/Cool,” “Horror Business,” and “Last Caress.” Their visual identity, centered on the crimson fiend skull logo, became as recognizable as their music and later influenced horror punk, hardcore, and metal acts.
Danzig left the Misfits in 1983 and subsequently formed Samhain before beginning a solo career under the name Danzig. Jerry Only remained closely associated with later versions of the Misfits, which is why listeners sometimes confuse the group’s founder with its long-term bassist and later frontman.
