Which Sikh Guru wrote the composition “Anand Sahib”? Guru Amar Das wrote Anand Sahib, the celebrated hymn collection in Sikh scripture.

Guru Amar Das was the third Sikh Guru, serving from 1552 to 1574. Anand Sahib is written in the Ramkali musical mode and appears in the Guru Granth Sahib on pages 917–922. Its central theme is spiritual bliss achieved through devotion, remembrance of the divine Name, and guidance from the Guru.

The complete Anand Sahib contains 40 pauris, or stanzas. A shorter form, commonly called Chhota Anand Sahib, uses selected opening and closing pauris and is frequently recited at the end of prayers and ceremonies. This shorter version is a common source of confusion: both forms belong to the same composition by Guru Amar Das.

Anand Sahib is also closely associated with the Anand Karaj, the Sikh marriage ceremony. It is sung during weddings and is also used at naming ceremonies, religious gatherings, and funerals. Guru Amar Das’s authorship should not be confused with Guru Arjan, who later compiled the Adi Granth, or Guru Nanak, whose hymns form an earlier foundation of Sikh scripture.
