Which seven-book fantasy series did C.S. Lewis write for children?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis wrote The Chronicles of Narnia, a seven-book fantasy series for children.

The series begins with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, published in 1950, and concludes with The Last Battle, published in 1956. Its stories take place mainly in the fictional world of Narnia, where talking animals, kings and queens, and supernatural forces shape the narrative.

Lewis did not publish the books in the internal chronological order later used by some editions. The publication sequence starts with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, while The Magician’s Nephew is set earlier in Narnian history.

The series is often compared with J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth books, but The Chronicles of Narnia is Lewis’s own work. Tolkien was Lewis’s friend and fellow Oxford literary scholar, not the author of Narnia.
