“Judgement” is the Series 1 episode that ends the first regular series of The Office (UK).
It is the sixth and final episode of the programme’s first series, following “New Girl.” The episode brings the downsizing storyline to a major turning point: Jennifer Taylor-Clarke announces that she has become a partner, while David is offered a promotion connected to the restructuring of the Slough and Swindon branches.
David initially accepts the apparent advancement, knowing that the changes could put his staff’s jobs at risk. At the office gathering, however, he announces that he has supposedly turned down the offer and kept the branch safe. The episode closes the first series with David trying to preserve his image as a caring boss, even as his staff remain unimpressed.
The title is sometimes confused with the earlier Series 1 episodes “Training” or “New Girl.” Those episodes occur before the finale. “The Quiz” is also a notable early installment, introducing Ricky Howard, but it is the third episode rather than the series-ending sixth.
