Broadcom Inc. makes networking and connectivity chips after acquiring Broadcom Corporation in 2016.
The modern company was formed when Avago Technologies acquired Broadcom Corporation in 2016. Although Avago was the legal acquirer, the combined business adopted the Broadcom name because of the acquired company’s strong technology identity.
Broadcom designs semiconductors used in data centers, broadband equipment, wireless communications, storage systems, and networking hardware. It also owns VMware, which it acquired in 2023, giving the company a major enterprise-software business.
Broadcom Inc. is often confused with Broadcom Corporation, its predecessor, or with Qualcomm, another major communications-chip designer. The company’s market value reflects both its semiconductor operations and its expanding infrastructure-software portfolio.
