Broadcom joined the trillion-dollar market-cap group in December 2024.
Broadcom crossed the threshold on December 13, 2024, after its shares jumped on strong expectations for artificial-intelligence infrastructure and custom accelerator demand. The company supplies a wide range of semiconductor and infrastructure-software products, including networking components used in data centers.
Broadcom’s modern form reflects major acquisitions and a strategy of combining chip businesses with enterprise software. Its purchase of VMware, completed in 2023, expanded its software operations and added a large virtualization and cloud-technology business. Broadcom therefore cannot be understood solely as a maker of individual chips.
The milestone is distinct from Nvidia’s earlier achievement as the first semiconductor company to reach $1 trillion. Broadcom crossed the same valuation level later, during a period when investors were rewarding companies exposed to AI data-center construction. Market capitalization remains a moving figure, so later price declines or share changes can move a company below the threshold without undoing the historical milestone.
