Nvidia, founded in 1993, became a major leader in high-performance graphics processors.
Nvidia was established by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem. The company initially focused on graphics processing units, or GPUs, which render images and video for computers and games. Its technology later became important for scientific computing, artificial intelligence, and data centers.
The company’s rising market capitalization was closely associated with demand for accelerated computing and AI infrastructure. Nvidia’s CUDA software platform also helped developers use its GPUs for general-purpose parallel computing, strengthening the ecosystem around its hardware.
Nvidia is sometimes confused with a pure gaming company because of its early graphics-card identity. Gaming remains a business, but data-center and AI products became central to its modern growth and valuation.
