Which Season X event left Fortnite unplayable after a black hole consumed the island?

The story behind the answer

The Season X event that left Fortnite unplayable after a black hole consumed the island was “The End.”

Held on October 13, 2019, the event concluded Fortnite’s first chapter. The Scientist launched rockets from Dusty Depot, using rifts across the island to bring the other members of the Seven into position. Together, the rockets redirected a meteor toward the Zero Point, the mysterious energy source at the heart of the island.

When the meteor struck, the Zero Point collapsed into a black hole. The island disappeared, and Fortnite’s normal menus and matches were replaced by a black-hole screen for roughly two days. This was not a server failure: it was a deliberately staged transition between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.

Players often confuse The End with later finale events such as Collision and Fracture. Collision ended Chapter 3, while Fracture ended Chapter 3’s final season; neither caused the original 2019 blackout.
