Which sea is the lowest exposed land surface on Earth?

The story behind the answer

The Dead Sea is the lowest exposed land surface on Earth. Its shoreline has fallen to roughly 430 metres below sea level, with the exact elevation changing as water levels decline.

The Dead Sea is a hypersaline lake bordered by Jordan and the West Bank. It has no outlet, so evaporation leaves dissolved minerals behind and produces salinity far higher than that of ordinary seawater. The high density of the water makes floating easy, but it does not mean that people cannot sink or that the water is safe to drink.

The lake has shrunk substantially because water has been diverted from the Jordan River and because of evaporation. Potash and other mineral industries also use water from the region. The name “sea” is traditional; geographically, it is a lake. The Caspian Sea is the world's largest enclosed inland body of water, but its surface lies substantially higher than the Dead Sea.
