Which Scottish national park is the largest in the United Kingdom?

Cairngorms National Park is the Scottish national park that is the largest in the United Kingdom.

Established in 2003, the park occupies about 4,528 square kilometres in northeastern Scotland. It includes the Cairngorm Mountains as well as surrounding landscapes such as Strathspey, upper Deeside, the Angus Glens and the Monadhliath. Despite its name, the park is much more than a single mountain range.

The Cairngorms is Scotland’s second national park, following Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, which was created in 2002. Its landscapes include high plateaus, forests, rivers, lochs and glens, supporting species such as red deer, golden eagles, red squirrels and capercaillie.

A frequent mix-up is Lake District National Park, which is the largest national park in England but not in the United Kingdom. Snowdonia, now also known as Eryri, is the largest in Wales.
