Which Scottish musician founded the subreddit r/changemyview?

Scottish musician Kal Turnbull founded the subreddit r/changemyview.

Turnbull established the community in 2013 under the username u/Snorrrlax. Its purpose was to give people a structured place to present an opinion and invite others to challenge it with reasoned arguments. The concept came from Turnbull’s observation that his friends generally shared similar views, making him wonder how people could encounter opposing perspectives constructively.

The subreddit’s distinctive feature is the delta system. If an original poster believes a commenter has genuinely changed their view, the poster can award a delta symbol, traditionally written as ∆. Deltas are tracked through user flair and serve as a visible sign that an argument produced a meaningful change.

r/changemyview is often confused with a general debate forum, but its rules emphasize civility, engagement with the argument, and explaining one’s reasoning. Turnbull was 17 when he founded it, and the community reached 100,000 members in less than a year.
