Yandex launched its own web browser in 2012.
Yandex Browser was introduced by the Russian technology company Yandex on October 1, 2012. The launch extended Yandex’s search business into the browser itself, allowing the company to integrate Yandex Search and its own security and online services more closely into everyday browsing.
The browser is based on the open-source Chromium project and uses the Blink rendering engine. Early versions included features such as a SmartBox address bar, security checks through Yandex’s systems, and technology derived from Opera Software’s Turbo approach for improving browsing on slower connections. Downloaded files were also checked using Kaspersky Anti-Virus in the browser’s early feature set.
The question asks for the company, not the browser’s full name, so “Yandex” is the canonical answer. Seznam, Naver and Baidu are also search companies with browser or browser-related products, but none is the Russian search company identified by this 2012 launch. Yandex Browser initially targeted the Russian market and later became available on desktop and mobile platforms internationally.
