Answer
Colosseum
The Roman amphitheater that is one of the New7Wonders is the Colosseum.
Located in the center of Rome, Italy, the Colosseum is the largest ancient amphitheater ever built and the largest standing amphitheater in the world. Construction began under Emperor Vespasian around AD 72 and was completed under his successor, Titus, in AD 80. Further modifications were made during the reign of Domitian.
The elliptical arena hosted public spectacles, including gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, executions, and other large entertainments. Its tiered seating reflected Roman social hierarchy, while passages and stairways helped move large crowds efficiently. Beneath the arena was a complex underground area known as the hypogeum, used for performers, animals, equipment, and stage machinery.
The Colosseum is sometimes called the Flavian Amphitheatre, after the Flavian dynasty that commissioned it. It was damaged by earthquakes and later stripped for building materials, but much of the structure survives. In 2007, it was selected as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, a modern list distinct from the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
