Which road bicycle race is known as La Primavera?
Answer
Milan–San Remo
Answer
Milan–San Remo
Milan–San Remo is the road bicycle race known as La Primavera.
La Primavera means “the spring” in Italian, reflecting the race’s place early in the European road season. Milan–San Remo runs from the northern Italian city of Milan to the coastal city of Sanremo and is one of cycling’s five Monuments.
The first edition was held in 1907, and the race traditionally takes place in March. Its route is exceptionally long compared with many one-day classics, while the final kilometres include climbs such as the Cipressa and the Poggio di Sanremo. The Poggio often shapes the decisive attacks before the finish.
Milan–San Remo is frequently described as a race for sprinters, attackers or versatile classics specialists because its outcome depends on both endurance and positioning. It is not the same event as the Giro di Lombardia, another Italian Monument traditionally held later in the year and associated with autumn.
