Which river carries water from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario?
Answer
Niagara River
Answer
Niagara River
The Niagara River carries water from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario.
It runs for about 58 kilometres along part of the boundary between Ontario and New York. The river is famous for Niagara Falls, where water drops dramatically between the two Great Lakes. After passing through the falls and other sections of rapids, the river empties into Lake Ontario.
Niagara Falls consists of three waterfalls: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. The falls are a major tourist attraction and also support hydroelectric power generation on both sides of the international boundary. Diversion works help manage water levels and protect the falls while supplying power.
The Niagara River is one link in the Great Lakes drainage chain. Water entering it from Lake Erie eventually flows through Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence before reaching the Atlantic Ocean.
