Império Serrano is the Rio Carnival samba school headquartered in Madureira and traditionally associated with green and white.
Founded in 1947, Império Serrano became one of Rio’s historic samba schools. It is based in Madureira, a neighborhood strongly connected with samba culture and with several important Carnival institutions. The school’s colors are green and white, which appear in its flag, costumes, and visual identity.
Império Serrano is especially remembered for influential samba-enredo presentations and for its place in the traditional group of major Rio schools. Its name is sometimes mistaken for that of another organization because “Império” is also used by samba groups outside Rio.
Madureira is also closely associated with Portela, whose blue-and-white identity is distinct. That makes color and neighborhood useful clues, but the green-and-white combination points to Império Serrano.
