Unidos da Tijuca is the Rio Carnival samba school based in Tijuca that uses blue and yellow as its traditional colors.
The school was founded in 1931 through the organization of samba groups from the Tijuca area. Its name means “United of Tijuca,” linking the institution to the large neighborhood in Rio’s North Zone. Blue and yellow dominate its flags, costumes, and parade identity.
Unidos da Tijuca is particularly associated with inventive parade effects and large-scale visual presentations. It won Rio’s top championship in the twenty-first century, including titles in 2010 and 2012.
The school should not be confused with Portela, whose colors are also a major identification clue but are blue and white. The combination of Tijuca, blue, and yellow points specifically to Unidos da Tijuca.
