Which Ride or Die actor played Marcel in Inglourious Basterds?

Jacky Ido played Marcel, the film projectionist, in Inglourious Basterds.

Quentin Tarantino’s 2009 film is a black comedy war movie set in an alternate version of Nazi-occupied Europe. Ido plays Marcel, a French projectionist who works at the cinema owned by Shosanna Dreyfus, portrayed by Mélanie Laurent. Marcel becomes crucial to Shosanna’s revenge plan when the cinema is selected for a premiere attended by senior Nazi figures.

Ido is a Burkinabé-French actor born in Ouagadougou in 1977. Before his international breakthrough, he appeared in French and German productions, including The White Masai. His Marcel role introduced him to a much wider English-language audience, even though the film’s large ensemble also includes Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender and Diane Kruger.

The character is sometimes misremembered as a soldier because of the film’s wartime setting. Marcel is instead a civilian cinema worker whose knowledge of the projection booth and film stock makes him indispensable to the plot.
