Which reservoir was formed by Hoover Dam on the Colorado River?

The story behind the answer

Which reservoir was formed by Hoover Dam on the Colorado River? Lake Mead was formed by Hoover Dam.

Hoover Dam was built in Black Canyon on the Colorado River as part of the Boulder Canyon Project. When the dam began holding back the river, the resulting reservoir became Lake Mead. Its first flooding began in 1935, while the dam and lake developed into major parts of the Southwest's water and power system.

Lake Mead lies on the Nevada–Arizona border, east of Las Vegas. It stores and regulates Colorado River water for Nevada, Arizona, California, and parts of Mexico, while Hoover Dam also generates hydroelectric power. The reservoir is named for Elwood Mead, who led the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation during the project's planning and construction.

The main mix-up is with Lake Mohave, which lies downstream behind Davis Dam, or Lake Powell, which lies upstream behind Glen Canyon Dam. Lake Havasu is another Colorado River reservoir, but it was created by Parker Dam—not Hoover Dam.
