Which Philippine lake surrounds Volcano Island?

The story behind the answer

Taal Lake surrounds Volcano Island in Batangas, Philippines.

Taal Lake is a freshwater caldera lake on Luzon, formed inside the broad depression created by enormous prehistoric eruptions. Volcano Island rises near its center and contains Taal Volcano's active vents, cones, and craters. The island is therefore part of a volcanic system inside the lake, not a separate lake itself.

The geography becomes even more unusual because Volcano Island contains Main Crater Lake, historically called Yellow Lake. That inner lake once contained Vulcan Point, creating the famous sequence of an island in a lake on an island in a lake. The 2020 Taal eruption temporarily drained Main Crater Lake before water later returned.

A common mix-up is Laguna de Bay, the Philippines' largest lake, or Lake Lanao, another major Philippine lake. Neither surrounds Volcano Island. Taal Lake is also associated with the 1754 eruption, which blocked its outlet and helped transform it from a former inlet into a freshwater lake.
