Which reservoir was created by Egypt's Aswan High Dam?

The story behind the answer

The reservoir created by Egypt’s Aswan High Dam is Lake Nasser.

Lake Nasser is a huge reservoir on the Nile in southern Egypt, extending southward into Sudan. It formed after construction of the Aswan High Dam across the river. The dam was designed to provide dependable water storage, support irrigation, reduce flood risk, and generate hydroelectricity for Egypt.

Construction of the High Dam began in 1960, and the project was completed in 1970. The reservoir is named after Gamal Abdel Nasser, Egypt’s president during the project’s early years. Its creation flooded large parts of Nubia and required the relocation of many communities and archaeological sites.

The name can cause a geographic complication: Egypt generally calls its portion Lake Nasser, while Sudan often calls the southern portion Lake Nubia. International quiz questions normally use Lake Nasser for the reservoir associated with the Aswan High Dam. The relocation of the Abu Simbel temples is one of the project’s best-known consequences.
