Which Renaissance artist appears as an ally in Assassin's Creed II?

The story behind the answer

Leonardo da Vinci appears as an ally in Assassin's Creed II.

In the game, Leonardo is a close friend and trusted helper of Ezio Auditore. He lives in Florence and later travels with Ezio to other locations in Italy. His talents allow him to decode pages of Altaïr's Codex and improve Ezio's equipment, including devices inspired by Leonardo's historical designs.

The partnership is fictionalized, but Leonardo da Vinci was a real Renaissance artist, engineer, inventor, and anatomist who lived from 1452 to 1519. Assassin's Creed II uses real people and cities as part of a fictional conspiracy narrative set during the Italian Renaissance.

The game's Leonardo is sometimes mixed up with the four Michelangelo-era artists listed as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. Only Leonardo da Vinci serves as Ezio's recurring inventor ally. The character also returns in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which continues Ezio's story in Rome.
