Assassin's Creed Black Flag mainly follows which character?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag mainly follows Edward Kenway.

Edward is a Welsh privateer who becomes involved with both the Assassins and Templars during the Golden Age of Piracy. The game is set largely in the Caribbean during the early eighteenth century, and Edward's pursuit of wealth gradually develops into a broader conflict over freedom, power, and the mysterious Observatory.

Edward Kenway is also the father of Haytham Kenway and the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed III. That family connection can cause confusion, especially because Haytham and Ratonhnhaké:ton are both important characters in the wider Kenway saga.

Black Flag was released in 2013 and is especially known for its sailing and naval combat. Edward commands the Jackdaw, explores islands and coastal settlements, and encounters historical pirates including Blackbeard. The game combines the series' stealth mechanics with a much larger emphasis on maritime exploration.
