Kanto is the setting of the original Pokémon anime's first season.
Ash Ketchum begins his journey in Pallet Town, a Kanto settlement, and travels through the region with Misty and Brock. The season features the eight Kanto Gym Leaders, the Pokémon League at Indigo Plateau, and many locations adapted from Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue.
Kanto was the first named region introduced in the Pokémon games. Its landscape includes forests, caves, islands, coastal towns, and cities such as Viridian City, Celadon City, and Saffron City. The anime expands these locations with original stories and characters.
Kanto is often confused with Johto because the anime's early run eventually continues into the neighboring Johto region. Johto is the setting associated with Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal and with the anime's second major journey, not the original first-season adventure.
