The Jamnagar Refinery is widely recognized as the world’s largest refining complex.
Reliance Industries developed the complex near Jamnagar in Gujarat, India. Its first refinery began operations in 1999, and a major expansion was completed in 2008. The site combines refining with petrochemical manufacturing, allowing petroleum fractions to become fuels, plastics feedstocks, and other products.
The complex is often described as having roughly 1.24 million barrels per day of crude-processing capacity, although capacity figures can vary by source and by whether associated facilities are counted. That scale makes Jamnagar a central landmark in global refining.
A common mix-up is confusing a refining complex with a single refinery unit. Jamnagar is a large integrated site containing multiple processing units and refineries. The nearby port and purpose-built industrial infrastructure help it receive crude oil and export refined products efficiently.
