Which red-and-white tower in Tokyo is a famous observation deck landmark?

The story behind the answer

The red-and-white observation-deck landmark in Tokyo is Tokyo Tower. Standing 332.9 meters tall in Minato’s Shiba-koen district, it was completed in 1958 as a communications and observation tower.

Its lattice design was inspired by the Eiffel Tower, but Tokyo Tower is painted international orange and white to satisfy aviation-safety rules. It originally supported radio and television broadcasting and became a major symbol of Japan’s postwar recovery.

Visitors can use the Main Deck at 150 meters and the Top Deck at 249.6 meters. A common mix-up is Tokyo Skytree, which became Japan’s tallest tower in 2012 and now handles much of the region’s digital broadcasting. Tokyo Tower remains one of the city’s best-known landmarks and a popular viewpoint over central Tokyo.
