Which record label released Dr. Dre’s 1992 debut solo album The Chronic?
Answer
Death Row Records
Answer
Death Row Records
Death Row Records released Dr. Dre’s 1992 debut solo album The Chronic.
The album was released on December 15, 1992, after Dr. Dre left N.W.A’s Ruthless Records. Death Row had been founded in 1991 by Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, The D.O.C., and Dick Griffey. The label gave Dre a new platform for the polished, funk-influenced production style that became associated with West Coast G-funk.
The Chronic introduced Snoop Doggy Dogg to a large audience and included tracks such as “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” “Dre Day,” and “Let Me Ride.” It reached number three on the Billboard 200 and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Let Me Ride.”
After leaving Death Row, Dr. Dre founded Aftermath Entertainment in 1996. That later label is therefore a common mix-up, but it did not release The Chronic.
