Which real city hosts the London race in Pixar’s Cars 2?

The story behind the answer

London hosts the final World Grand Prix race in Pixar’s Cars 2.

The London section brings Lightning McQueen, Mater, Finn McMissile, and Holley Shiftwell to the United Kingdom for the concluding event of the international racing series. The film uses recognizable London landmarks, including Big Ben and the area around Buckingham Palace, as part of its visual setting.

London is the third major race location in the World Grand Prix after Tokyo, Japan, and Porto Corsa, Italy. The city also becomes the setting for the film’s climax, when the espionage plot and the racing storyline converge.

The city should not be confused with Porto Corsa, the fictional Italian coastal location used for the second race, or Tokyo, where the opening race takes place. Cars 2’s global itinerary is one of the sequel’s defining differences from the first Cars film, whose story is concentrated largely around Radiator Springs and Route 66.
