Eminem won the 2000 MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year with “The Real Slim Shady.”
The song appeared on Eminem's third studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP, released in 2000. Its video used comic imagery, celebrity impersonation, and deliberately provocative humor, helping establish Eminem as one of the era's most visible MTV performers.
At the 2000 ceremony, Eminem was among the night's dominant winners. “The Real Slim Shady” also earned awards including Best Male Video and Best Video from a Film, while Eminem performed the song with a large procession of look-alike figures.
The result is distinct from Eminem's later VMA successes, including “Without Me,” which won Video of the Year in 2002. The 2000 prize specifically honored “The Real Slim Shady.”
