Ice Cube released the 1990 album AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted after leaving N.W.A.
Priority Records issued the album on May 16, 1990. It was Ice Cube’s solo debut and followed his departure from N.W.A. after disputes involving group finances and management. The album combines Cube’s direct political writing with production shaped by New York’s Bomb Squad, best known for its work with Public Enemy.
Key tracks include “The Nigga Ya Love to Hate,” “Once Upon a Time in the Projects,” and “Endangered Species (Tales from the Darkside).” The record examines policing, racism, media representation, and life in South Central Los Angeles.
The spelling of the title is intentional: the three capital Ks evoke the Ku Klux Klan and signal the album’s critique of American racism. AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted is sometimes confused with Death Certificate, Ice Cube’s 1991 follow-up, which is also highly political.
