Which rap group released the 1990 album Fear of a Black Planet?

Public Enemy released the 1990 album Fear of a Black Planet.

The album was Public Enemy’s third studio release and followed It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. It expanded the group’s dense, politically charged sound through layered samples, aggressive rhythms, and the production team known as the Bomb Squad.

Songs such as “Fight the Power,” “Welcome to the Terrordome,” and “911 Is a Joke” addressed race, media, policing, and political power. “Fight the Power” had already gained attention through Spike Lee’s 1989 film Do the Right Thing, but Fear of a Black Planet placed it within a larger album-length argument.

The title is sometimes mixed up with Public Enemy’s earlier albums because all three are central to the group’s classic period. Fear of a Black Planet was released in 1990, while It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back appeared in 1988 and Yo! Bum Rush the Show in 1987.
