Which railway station in India is famous for its UNESCO-listed Victorian Gothic architecture in Mumbai?

The story behind the answer

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is the Mumbai railway station famous for its UNESCO-listed Victorian Gothic architecture.

The station opened in 1888 as Victoria Terminus, named during the British colonial period. Frederick William Stevens designed the building, combining Victorian Gothic Revival ideas with architectural traditions associated with India. Its grand dome, turrets, stone carving and elaborate interior make it one of Mumbai’s best-known landmarks.

The station was renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in 1996 and later received its present official name, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. It remains a busy suburban and long-distance railway hub.

The building became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. It is sometimes confused with Mumbai Central, another major station, but Mumbai Central is not the historic Victorian Gothic terminus described here.
