Answer
Rhaetian Railway
Answer
Rhaetian Railway
The Rhaetian Railway carries the world’s longest passenger train record, set in Switzerland in 2022.
On 29 October 2022, the Rhaetian Railway operated a train measuring about 1,906 metres long over the Albula line between Preda and Bergün. The train consisted of 100 passenger coaches and seven locomotives, creating a spectacular procession through the mountainous Graubünden landscape.
The event marked the 175th anniversary of Switzerland’s first railway. It also celebrated the Albula and Bernina landscapes, which were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008. The train crossed 22 bridges and passed through 48 tunnels during the special journey.
This record concerns the greatest length of a passenger train, not the longest railway route or the longest train ever assembled for freight. The railway’s regular services use much shorter trains suited to steep gradients, tight curves, and alpine stations.
