Which racer is Lightning McQueen’s main rival in Pixar’s original Cars film?

Chick Hicks is Lightning McQueen’s main rival in Pixar’s original Cars film.

Chick competes against Lightning and Strip “The King” Weathers for the Piston Cup. He is characterized by aggressive driving, a desire for publicity, and a willingness to use dirty tactics. His signature move is the “Hickory,” a deliberate bump that can send another racer spinning.

Chick’s design is based on a green 1980s Buick Regal Grand National, contrasting with Lightning’s sleek red race-car appearance. He wears racing number 86 and is sponsored by Hostile Takeover Bank. The rivalry helps show Lightning’s early arrogance and the importance he places on victory.

Jackson Storm later becomes Lightning’s principal racing threat in Cars 3, while Francesco Bernoulli is a major rival in Cars 2. Those characters belong to later films, so they are not the main rival in the original 2006 story.
