Which punk band's debut album 'Real Life' was released in 1978?
Answer
Magazine
Answer
Magazine
Magazine released its debut album Real Life in 1978.
The English band formed around vocalist Howard Devoto after his departure from the Buzzcocks, and Real Life helped define the emerging post-punk sound. The album combines Devoto's sharply observant lyrics with John McGeoch's angular guitar and saxophone, Dave Formula's keyboards, Barry Adamson's bass, and Martin Jackson's drumming.
Recorded during March and April 1978 at Abbey Road Studios and with Virgin's Manor Mobile, the album was produced by John Leckie. It was released on 24 June 1978 by Virgin Records and reached number 29 on the UK Albums Chart. The record includes a re-recorded version of “Shot by Both Sides,” Magazine's debut single and one of the era's landmark post-punk songs.
Although Magazine emerged from the punk scene, Real Life is more atmospheric and structurally adventurous than straightforward punk. It is commonly described as post-punk, new wave, or art rock. The other options are notable British bands, but none released an album titled Real Life in this context.
