Answer
Hüsker Dü
Answer
Hüsker Dü
The punk band that released the 1984 album Zen Arcade is Hüsker Dü.
Zen Arcade is the second studio album by the American punk band Hüsker Dü. SST Records released it in July 1984 as a double album, following the group’s 1983 EP Metal Circus. The band recorded the album at Total Access Recording in Redondo Beach, California, with producer and engineer Spot.
Rather than presenting a collection of short hardcore songs, Zen Arcade follows a loose concept story about a young person escaping an unhappy home life and discovering that the outside world brings its own hardships. The record moves through hardcore, psychedelic passages, acoustic sections, and experimental instrumental moments, giving it a scope unusual for the era’s underground punk scene.
The band’s core lineup was Bob Mould on guitar and vocals, Grant Hart on drums and vocals, and Greg Norton on bass. The Replacements and Minutemen were contemporaries, but neither released Zen Arcade; Sonic Youth was another influential alternative band from the same period.
