Which punk band released the 1979 album Metal Box under the name Public Image Ltd?
Answer
Public Image Ltd
Answer
Public Image Ltd
Public Image Ltd released the 1979 album Metal Box.
The record was the band's second studio album and followed their debut, First Issue. It was originally issued in the United Kingdom in a metal film canister containing three 12-inch records, an unusual package that gave the album its title and visual identity.
Public Image Ltd was formed by John Lydon after the breakup of the Sex Pistols. Metal Box moved far beyond the short, direct structures of his earlier band, using dub-influenced bass, experimental textures, and extended arrangements. Jah Wobble played bass on the album, while Keith Levene contributed guitar.
The album was released in the United States under the title Second Edition, using a more conventional package. This alternate title is a common source of confusion, but Metal Box and Second Edition refer to the same collection of recordings.
