Which punk band had the hit single 'Anarchy in the UK'?

The Sex Pistols had the hit single “Anarchy in the U.K.” The song was released as the English punk band’s debut single on 26 November 1976 and became one of the defining recordings of the first British punk wave.

The track featured Johnny Rotten on vocals, Steve Jones on guitar, Glen Matlock on bass and Paul Cook on drums. Its confrontational lyrics and raw sound helped establish the Sex Pistols’ public image, while the band’s provocative performances made them a target of intense media attention.

“Anarchy in the U.K.” was the only Sex Pistols recording released by EMI. It reached number 38 on the UK Singles Chart before the label dropped the band in January 1977. The song was later included on Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. A frequent mix-up is attributing it to The Clash or The Damned, other major British punk bands from the same era.
