Answer
Circle Jerks
Answer
Circle Jerks
The Los Angeles punk band that released the 1980 album “Group Sex” is Circle Jerks.
Circle Jerks formed in Southern California in 1979 with vocalist Keith Morris, guitarist Greg Hetson, bassist Roger Rogerson, and drummer Lucky Lehrer. Morris had previously been a founding vocalist in Black Flag, while Hetson came from the Southern California punk network that surrounded bands such as Redd Kross.
Group Sex, released by Frontier Records on 1 October 1980, was the band’s debut studio album. It contains 14 songs packed into roughly 15 minutes, giving the record an exceptionally compressed, frantic feel. The music helped define the emerging Los Angeles hardcore sound through rapid tempos, short arrangements, and shouted vocals.
Several tracks connect the album to Morris’s earlier work: “Wasted,” “Don’t Care,” “Behind the Door,” and “Red Tape” originated with Black Flag. Group Sex also appeared in the musical world documented by The Decline of Western Civilization. Fear, The Germs, and Black Flag were influential Los Angeles punk bands, but Circle Jerks recorded this particular album.
