Which punk band featured saxophonist Lora Logic?
Answer
X-Ray Spex
Answer
X-Ray Spex
The punk band that featured saxophonist Lora Logic was X-Ray Spex.
Logic, born Susan Whitby, was a founding member of the London band and joined its early line-up in 1976. Her saxophone gave X-Ray Spex an unusual sound at a time when many punk groups relied on the standard guitar, bass and drums combination. She performed alongside vocalist Poly Styrene, guitarist Jak Airport, bassist Paul Dean and drummer B. P. Hurding.
Logic was only fifteen when she joined and left X-Ray Spex in 1977 to continue her education. Although her time in the group was brief, her contribution remained important: she wrote saxophone parts associated with the band's debut album, 'Germfree Adolescents', released in 1978. Steve 'Rudi' Thompson later played saxophone in the band's line-up.
After leaving X-Ray Spex, Logic formed Essential Logic, a post-punk band that released music of its own. Her presence is one reason X-Ray Spex stands out in punk history, alongside Poly Styrene's distinctive vocals and the band's sharp anti-consumerist lyrics.
