Hull City recorded a 2–0 victory over Manchester United in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
The match was played at the MKM Stadium on Saturday 22 August, with Hull scoring once in each half. Semi Ajayi opened the scoring in the 17th minute, and Nampalys Mendy added the second before half-time.
Hull’s victory was one of the opening weekend’s headline results because the club had just returned to the Premier League. It was also Manchester United’s first match of the new campaign, making the 2–0 home win an immediate statement from the promoted side.
Hull should not be confused with Coventry City or Ipswich Town, the other promoted clubs. Coventry lost to Arsenal, while Ipswich defeated Sunderland 2–1. Hull were the promoted team that beat Manchester United.
