Manchester United faced promoted Hull City away from home in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
The fixture was scheduled for Saturday 22 August 2026 at the MKM Stadium. It was the first Saturday lunchtime match of the new Premier League season, with a 12:30 BST kick-off and live television coverage in the United Kingdom.
Hull City had won promotion through the Championship play-offs, returning to the Premier League after an absence of nine years. Manchester United therefore began their campaign at a ground hosting top-flight football again after Hull’s long spell outside the division.
Manchester United were beaten 2–0. The fixture is easy to confuse with Arsenal’s opening match against Coventry City, or Ipswich Town’s meeting with Sunderland. All three promoted clubs appeared during the opening round, but Hull were the newly promoted side paired with United.
