Which production company did David Fincher co-found in 1986?

The story behind the answer

David Fincher co-founded the production company Propaganda Films in 1986.

Propaganda Films was established in Los Angeles by producer Steve Golin, producer Sigurjón Sighvatsson, director Nigel Dick, and directors David Fincher, Dominic Sena, and Greg Gold. The company was created to give filmmakers greater creative control and to develop film projects, but it initially built its financial base through music videos and television commercials.

That strategy made Propaganda unusually influential during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Its roster helped shape the visual language of the era, and Fincher directed major music videos there, including Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and “Vogue.” The company also became a launching pad for directors such as Michael Bay, Spike Jonze, Gore Verbinski, and Antoine Fuqua.

Propaganda later expanded into feature-film and television production, working with filmmakers including David Lynch. It entered a distribution and financing relationship with PolyGram in 1988, and PolyGram later acquired the company. Propaganda Films ultimately closed in 2001. The other options are separate companies with different founders and histories, not Fincher’s 1986 venture.
